Unable to autorun petalinux x11 app after autologin

Hello ,

 

I have created petalinux app which should start as soon as the auto login is done. But while auto-login part is working after :

 

petalinux-config

Select Yocto-settings --> Enable debug-tweaks

 the auto run is not working and i have to manualy go and start the app.

 

I used UG1144 pg 60 and Avnet github display port files (https://github.com/Avnet/petalinux/tree/master/configs/meta-user.uz3eg_iocc_dp/recipes-apps) to create my x11 tutorial.

 

I have attached the relevant files. (Added .sh files as text files due to upload error)

 

Also, when i try to execute the X11 tutorial mLinApp, it states cannot run XOpenDisplay,  while i have included lX11 and x11-mali but not sure how to configure those inside the petalinux-config ??

 

Any help is much appriciated.

Thanks for helping out.

 

So found the mistake in my setup 

 

Previously my boot args was :

earlycon earlyprintk clk_ignore_unused root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rw rootwait uio_prdv_genirq.of_id=generic-uio cma=1024 rootfstype=ext4

 

Now i changed it to -

 

earlycon earlyprintk clk_ignore_unused root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rw rootwait uio_prdv_genirq.of_id=generic-uio cma=1024M rootfstype=ext4

 

Also added the destro_feature_check in th bb file as suggested by you

 

and also i changed the depth to 24 instead of 16.. (read it here https://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Video/DisplayPort-no-picture-on-ZCU102/td-p/800388) as i am using a DELL monitor..

Use the updated version of tricube recipe. I have asked Mario to update the same on Avnet repo.

 

Can you share <plnx-proj-root>/project-spec/meta-plnx-generated/recipes-core/images/petalinux-user-image.bb file?

Thanks for the tricube attachment, but I am really interesed to create my own X11 tutorial from the start. I would really appreciate if you can share the details on the steps to reproduce it as the X11 tutorial doesn't have it.

 

for the starters, i see recipes-graphics in the tricube repo but how do i add those in petalinux project using petalinux-config -c kernel ? There were like 2 or 3 different X11 libs so i was not sure which one to pick.

 

Do i need to do these :

 

$ Petalinux-config -c rootfs
enable the following packages:
Filesystem Packages > libs> libmali-xlnx > libmali-xlnx
Filesystem Packages > libs > libmali-xlnx > libmali-xlnx-dev
Filesystem Packages > misc > packagegroup-petalinux-x11 > packagegroup-petalinux-x11
Filesystem Packages > misc > packagegroup-petalinux-x11 > packagegroup-petalinux-x11-dev

or different ones and any other libs along with it ?

Did you tried running your application manually first then you add to startup application.

Hi @sandeepg

 

While i was able to create my own X11 based program and able to package it and run it / auto-run it after login. The program i created is not using openGL or EGL libs. While those are installed on my system and compiled in the rootfs folder .. when i run the tutorial you have mentioned i see nothing on the screen connected to the board ... the screen however does initializes but the rotating cube/triangle does not appear. i get the debug info on my terminal such as running dographics ... etc  but no activity on the actual screen.

 

Please let me know what is going on with the code.

 

Btw, i have not included recipes-graphics in my app folder and have tricube.c and .h files (+makefile and relevant changes to .bb file )

When you mentioned you are NOT using OpenGL/EGL then which graphics libraries(mesa?) are you using.

for my own tutorial i just used Xlib.h as the tutorial is pretty basic. now i am trying to use the opengl libs so wanted to tryout the already existing demo but it is not working as i have stated above.

One additional info. When i tried to execute the X11 tutorial which i got from avnet github repo, It worked fine on my ubuntu system. but the same code when i try to build and deploy on the ultrazed shows blank screen. So there is no issue with the code but may be some settings ? or screen resolution ?. Please let me know your views.

Did you kill the Xorg before running the X11 application.

Hi @sandeepg

Yes i did.

 

Please check the boot logs for the two different apps. For both the apps , Xorg is killed and the steps that you mentioned are followed. Still the plain X11 app starts fine while tricube does not.

I have cleaned up your apps recipe(See attachment). Also I see in your application you need to call below API's

Refer the hellox11 example which I have created.

 

I was able to run your application using petalinux on Ultrazed board(Refer Attachment). We don't use petalinux scripts from Avnet github to build the petalinux project. We usually create a template project using hdf and add the required components.

I am so sorry for the confusion, but the code you executed works fine for me... it is the tricube application given out by xilinx/avnet which is not working .. 

 

the tricube code i found from here : https://github.com/Avnet/petalinux/tree/master/configs/meta-user.uz3eg_iocc_dp/recipes-apps

 

I made the project similar to what you guys did, and not using the project script from avnet  and creating my own from the scratch. I just used this tricube cpp and .h file code from the github repo.

 

The diff is i just use runtricube.sh script to start the app instead of all the trd files. This approach was working fine with the code you executed but when i modifies the script to start the tricube app, it gave me the issue i mentioned earlier in the thread. 

 

Also i do not have reciepe-graphics included in my app repo.

 

i'll try you code as well but, i am switching between the x11 app  and tricube app when i update the runtricube script. 

 

Update: 

 

here are some pics that i captured which will help to understand what is happening :

The green screen is something i have added to verify is the code is running or not at all ... the green screen is part of X11 lib code portion. The code after it which make use of openGL tricube to display rotating cube / triangle does not show up unlike on my ubuntu system.

This is what I heard from Avnet 6 months back when I asked for supported monitors and they support below monitors tested with Ultrazed.

 

Currently Ultrazed doesn't support 1080p monitors running OpenGL applications but we do support 1080p monitors with ZCU102/ZCU106 boards.

Thanks for helping out.

 

So found the mistake in my setup 

 

Previously my boot args was :

earlycon earlyprintk clk_ignore_unused root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rw rootwait uio_prdv_genirq.of_id=generic-uio cma=1024 rootfstype=ext4

 

Now i changed it to -

 

earlycon earlyprintk clk_ignore_unused root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rw rootwait uio_prdv_genirq.of_id=generic-uio cma=1024M rootfstype=ext4

 

Also added the destro_feature_check in th bb file as suggested by you

 

and also i changed the depth to 24 instead of 16.. (read it here https://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Video/DisplayPort-no-picture-on-ZCU102/td-p/800388) as i am using a DELL monitor..

Contiguous Memory Allocator (CMA) in linux is a framework, which allows setting up a machine-specific configuration for physically-contiguous memory management. Memory for devices is then allocated according to that configuration.

 

On any embedded systems have no scatter-getter and/or IO map support and as such require contiguous blocks of memory to operate. For example in  cameras, hardware video decoders and encoders, etc. Such devices often require big memory buffers (a full HD frame is more than 2 mega pixels large, i.e. more than 6 MB of memory), which makes kmalloc() as ineffective.

CMA is optional for running simple GPU application. I don't use on ZCU102 board to run tricube application.

 

Avnet Ultrazed uses video_ea linux branch https://github.com/Xilinx/linux-xlnx/tree/2017.2_video_ea to support some video IP they are using CMA in bootargs.
