modifying ramdisk from Zynq 14.3 release

Jump to solution

I'm trying to get my own Linux build going on a ZC702 board, and I started with the 14.3 release.  I've built my own kernel from the 14.3 tag and got that working, but now I need to modify the IP address it starts with, and that seems to be set in the ramdisk image.  I've tried extracting the ramdisk using the same method I used for getting the initramfs from the Microblaze toolset, namely "gzip -dc ramdisk.image.gz | cpio -id", but cpio just complains about malformed numbers.  Yes, I already stripped off the header that mkimage added to make uramdisk.image.gz.

How do I get the files back out of the ramdisk image so that I can edit them, and then how do I put it back together so that it will work?  Thanks in advance.

The last page of the pdf file here gives you the instructions on how to mount the ram disk as a loop back device to make changes to an existing ram disk image.
