DDR3 Chips for ZYNQ (Micron and Alliance)

Jump to solution

Hi. I saw in some reference designs (Zedboard, ZC702) that in general they use memories like MT41J64M16JT-15E IT, from Micron. I found a similar but not equal memory, from Alliance: AS4C64M16D3 that is JEDEC standard compliant, so is pin compatible with MT41J64M16JT-15E IT. So the question is: Is there any problem to use this Alliance memory chip instead Micron memory chip? I'll appreciate that some Xilinx engineers can answer me. Thanks

Hi,

Do you plan to use PS DDR or MIG?

You can find list of supported devices for MIG here

Even for PS DDR you have only few memory parts that you can select in drop down, if you want to interface other memories like Alliance there is something called custom part, you can select it and modify the timing paraneters as per memory vendor datasheet.

Please refer relavant discussions and UGs

you can find more info from help tab.

If it is PS DDR, you can find all known issues here

Edit:-

One more link on PS DDR custom topic

Yes, it is for PS DDR3. I will look those links. Another question.

I have to do the PCB and connect two x16 ddr3 memory chips  to a 7030 zynq. I've seen in some reference designs (Zedboard, Z702) that use flyby, and a mix between flyby and t-branch topology. I want to ask: Can I ommite termination resistors (40 Ohm for single ended and 80 Ohm for differential) if I use T-branch topology? I think that T-branch is appropiate in my case because I have only 2 chips. In case that I have to put the termination resistors, where in the board must I have to put those resistors? Thanks!!

Hi,

If you think the question on supported memory devices is addressed I would suggest you to close  the current thread and start a new thread with appropriate title.

Where did you see that T and Fly By mixed topology is supported? any link or doc that you can point?

Xilinx recommends fly by toplogy, you need to have termination resistors as specified in the UG and close to the load

Okey. I'll open a new thread for my new question. My conclusion of this thread:

I can use a memory of Alliance if I put the custom setting times in Vivado PS-DDR3 config. Right? Thanks

Hi @lordcape@vsrunga

Did Alliance DDR3 Worked in your board?

I have same issue/problem. I'm using Alliance DDR3 (4Gb DDR3L -AS4C256M16D3L), I changed the DDR settings as per data sheet given by Alliance(by selecting costume in DDR Settings, but it's not working. Please can you help me out.

Thanks/Regards
