10GE MAC - ten gig ethernet mac - missing something... (MAC address, etc...?)

Got a HW eval lic for the xilinx 10GE MAC, and it seems to be missing configuration details, am hoping someone could enlighten me. I designed a 10/100 MAC long ago for ASIC, but this xilinx MAC seems to be missing things in terms of addressing and such. Is 10GE any different than regular ethernet, in terms of ARP table and MAC addresses? From the documentation (or rather the lack thereof) there doesn’t even seem to be a way to program the 10GE MAC - with a ‘MAC’ address to send, or a way to set a inbound address to 'look for' or is all of this done at a higher level, with the 10GE MAC always in some ‘promiscuous’ mode – with the responsibility of accepting packets based on MAC address for user logic to decide? Unless there is more to the host management interface it would seem as if the MAC is not much of an “intelligent device”.

You are correct. The Xilinx 10GEMAC is always operating in "promiscuous" mode and does not do any address filtering on the in bound recieved frame.

For transmitted frames the users is required to provide the source address and destination address fields as part of the client data input.  For transmitting pause frames there is a pause address that can be programmed for the 10GEMAC to set the source address for the pause frame generated by the 10GEMAC.
