XAPP1082 reference design Ethernet 10/100/1000 Mbps auto-negotiation issues

According to the following link, the reference design of XAPP1082 supports ethernet auto-negotiation for 10/100/1000 Mbps, when PL ethernet configured as SGMII.

1. The axi 1G/2.5G ethernet subsytem IP core instances gtx for SGMII serial communication and minimum gtx transceiver data rate for 7 series is 500 Mbps. How would it be possible to support 10/100 Mbps with this IP core?

2. Will be ethernet 10/100/1000 Mbps auto-negotiation accomplished using Cisco GLC-T RJ45 ethernet to SFP modules with XAPP1082 reference design PL ethernet configured as SGMII?

3. What are the requirement for working with SGMII and RJ45 ethernet to SFP modules? For instance, Configuring IIC of SFP modules and etc.?

It's using oversampling.

When SGMII run at 100M/10M, the line rate is still 1000M while the data are repeated 10/100 times.

If the link partner is 88E1111, IP can link up with it via SGMII

Hi @bmn987 

If you dont have a physical PHY, then try using fixed link solution where PS-GTR lane on a custom Zynq board to talk to an SFP cage over SGMII.

We have an AR here for zynqMP. I hope same device tree changes should be applicable in case of zynq too.

I want to use the PL ethernet of XAPP1082 on a kintex 7 FPGA and I don't need linux bring up and embedded processor. I just want to do a simple packet processing in HDL. I want to use xilinx AXI 1G/2.5G Ethernet Subsytem IP to bring up ethernet on an SFP port connected to FPGA GTX pins using RJ45 ethernet to SFP modules.

Since I need auto-negotiation, I should configure AXI 1G/2.5G Ethernet Subsytem in SGMII mode and on the other hand, configure (via IIC) the RJ45 ethernet to SFP module to be in SGMII mode. As far as I know, Cisco GLC-T RJ45 ethernet to SFP modules, have physical PHY (Marvell 88E1111).
