Two usb serial ports (COM) on ZYBO

Jump to solution

image.png

I see two COMs on device manager for my ZYBO SoC, this is a problem when I want to connect through SDK because it is supposed to have only one COM. Furthermore I have to say that this happens only on my new laptop which has vivado 2018 installed on it, when using my old laptop with vivado 2014 this is not a problem, I see just one COM.

I can program the bit file, but cannot connect using the SDK. How can I fix this issue?

I contacted FTDI and solved the issue, these are the steps:

1)      Unplug all FTDI-based products.

2)      Run CDM_UninstallerGUI.  Enter only the VID for FTDI (0403) and leave the PID blank.  Here’s a link: http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Utilities.htm#CDMUninstaller

4)      … now click “Add”

      Description: Description: cid:image002.png@01CE5D31.A1198CF0

6)      Click Remove Devices

7)      There should be a notice that the drivers were removed, or if the driver install never completed, you’ll get a notice that there weren’t any drivers to remove – that’s OK.

8)      Reboot

9)      Before plugging in the cable, run the driver installer.  You should “Run as Administrator” – Right click on the downloaded EXE, it’ll be toward the top of the menu selections.

10)   Now plug in the Zybo device into a USB host port (or hub connected to a USB  host port).  In the device manager, you should see two devices get installed for the unit.  One under the “Universal Serial Bus controllers” tree and one under the “Ports COM and LPT” tree.

Hi enriqeat2,

Can you send us a screenshot of the driver in each computer, like below?

It might also be worth taking a look at Digilent's forum:

Thanks,
Andres

Hi enriqeat2,

I'd try reinstalling the drivers, as explained in this Answer Record:

https://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/59128.html

If that doesn't work, please take a look at this thread from the Digilent forum:

https://forum.digilentinc.com/topic/1092-issue-with-zybo-not-being-recognized-by-hardware-manager-in-vivado-20153-design-edition/

Thanks,

Andres
