XUPV5 (ML509) Demos / Ref designs

Jump to solution

Can someone please refer me to the files necessary to re-build my compact flash card with the original demos for the XUPV5 (ML509) board from Digilent? Alternatively, could someone who also has the board please send me a copy of the compact flash contents?

Just to explain myself, after receiving the XUPV5 (ML509) board from Digilent, I couldn't manage to get any of the pre-programmed demo designs running. I figured that the compact flash card that came with the board had just not been programmed correctly, so I erased the existing files and re-loaded the card with the standard files for the ML505.

The re-loaded card didn't work either and I eventually realised that the standard flash files for the ML505 would not work with the XUPV5 (ML509) because they contain bit files for the XC5VLX50T, not the XC5VLX110T that is on the XUPV5.

Thanks in advance.

After some searching around, I found a post in another forum from someone who had a similar problem.

That lead me to the OpenSPARC website where I eventually found my solution.

To run your designs from the Compact Flash card on the XUPV5 (ML505 with XC5VLX110T instead of the standard XC5VLX50T), you can use the standard files as a base. The standard ML505 CF card files contain folders ML50x\cfg0 to ML50x\cfg7 that each contain a demo design in ACE file format. You can select which ACE file is loaded on start-up by appropriately setting switch SW3. Bits 1-3 select the ACE file while bits 4-8 must be set to "10101". Each of the standard ACE files are written for the XC5VLX50T, so none of them will work on the XUPV5, however you can still replace them with your own ACE files. Make sure that there is only ONE ace file per folder and that your ACE file is a working design for the  XC5VLX110T.

Read the ML505/ML506/ML507 Getting Started Tutorial for information on producing ACE files from your bitstream (BIT) files.

Hi,

As far as I can tell there are original production CF card images for the ML505, ML506, and ML507, but not for the ML509:

ML505:

http://www.xilinx.com/products/boards/ml505/ml505_10.1_3_1/images.htm

ML506 :

http://www.xilinx.com/products/boards/ml506/ml506_10.1_3_1/images.htm

ML507:

http://www.xilinx.com/products/boards/ml507/ml507_10.1_3_1/images.htm

Would it be possible to put up a link for the corresponding ML509 CF card image,  mine was erased and I would like to recover it, like I can for my ML505, and ML507.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Phillip.

Despite a similar name, ML509, this board is not produced by Xilinx.  You will need to contact Digilent for the material.
