Programming SPI configuration flash without using JTAG(for mass prduction)

Jump to solution

What will be the file format used for programming the SPI configuration flash, without using JTAG(In case of mass production). We tried programming the flash with .mcs file, but it is not booting up.

you can use .bin file if you are using third party porgrammers I would suggest you to readback the flash for the both type of programming and compare the files which was written and see if there is difference in the files written

For More information on the project:

P/N of FPGA Used : XC7A35T-2CSG324I

P/N of Configuration Flash : S25FL256SAGBHI200

Configuration used: spi X4

We were able to program the configuration flash using .mcs file, using JTAG..

Now while we tried programming the flash using the same .mcs file using FlashPAKIII kit, we notice that the FPGA is not booting up.

Kindly help.

For a Quad SPI programming (x4), the first thing to check is always whether or not you set the Quad bit of the flash properly. You can refer to the datasheet of the flash used.

Thanks for your reply. As mentioned the Interface selected in spix4 while generating the .mcs file.
Also please confirm on the file format(.bit/.bin/.mcs etc) used for programming the configuration flash, if we are not using JTAG programmer.
