How to read real time and store it in a variable in xps-edk?

Hi..............

Is there any possibility to read real time(clock time) and store it in a variable in xps-edk?

I am using 10.1 and 12.4 versions of xilinx...................!

thanks in advance.............

Re: How to read real time and store it in a variable in xps-edk?

Where would you get the clock time from?

There are two possibilities as I see it:

1. You have an external RTC in your system that is readable, perhaps over something like SPI, which can interface to the FPGA. The value can then be stored after it is read. There will of course be some difference between actual time and the time stored but it will be minor and may be your system can cope with it.

2. Have your own RTC counter in the FPGA that is loaded with a known value at system power on, perhaps over ethernet or PCIe, and the counter increments freely, at whatever resolution you like, keeping pretty good system time.

Real Time,

Is a real pain.  One elegant solution is to used a PS Receiver.  It then tells you the time, so no logic is required to design a real time clock system (which is very very difficult to do right).
