How to procure flex ID dongle in the UK

Jump to solution
Hi,

We have procured a Vivado SL floating license, but would like to swap it for node locked license and tie it to a dongle. But we are not able to figure out how to procure the dongle. Kindly give us some direction on where to buy the dongle or the weblink to buy the dongle.

We are planning to use Vivado 2017.4

Regards

Ashok

Hello @ashok_raj,

If you need to exchange your license from a Floating to a Node-Locked, you'd need to get in touch with the sales person you have purchased this license from and see what they can do in this case.

However, i would like to point out to you that a dongle is just an actual a transferable ID (Dongle's Host ID) (and not a memory USB stick), e.g.:

When you'd be generating your node-locked license, you'd then select and specify the Dongle's Flexid for this license. See the below AR for more details:

https://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/42410.html

That way then you'd be able to transfer this dongle together with your license from a PC to a PC and Vivado will then be able to detect and use this license on your different machines.
Well, typically, FLEX licensing works as long as the dongle is recognized on the system, by running this command "lmutil lmhostid -flexid" in a terminal, to get the dongle FLEX ID and to check if the dongle is recognized. If so, then Vivado should have no issue in finding and using your license that is generated targeting the Dongle's Flexid.

However, the idea behand a floating license is that it can be setup on a flaoting license server, what other users have access to, and that way, whoever needs to use this license, will be able to check out this license without needing (like with the Dongle + Node-Locked license) physically removing the license and the dongle from the server/machine.

The idea of the dongle is to be able to use this license on multiple machines, like with floating license, as with node-locked licenses, these are locked to a particular machine and won't work on any other PC unless you are using a Dongle and doing manual transfer to a new PC that needs to be license.
For more information, refer to the Licensing, Download and Installation FAQ page.  This topic is covered under "Using a Node-Locked License -> What is the preferred ID (MAC address, drive serial number, or dongle) to lock a Node-Locked License to?")

As you can see, there are a few advantages in using a floating license rather than a Node-Locked license, specifically at this stage where you haven't actually bought a dongle yet

As I know, we (Xilinx) no longer directly sales Dongles. Therfore, can email Flexera directly and they can help youwith ordering a HASP HL dongle.
Checking this Flexera site, https://www.flexera.com/producer/products/software-monetization/flexnet-licensing/id-dongle/,  here you can read this:  “For additional information or to order dongles, please contact flexid@flexerasoftware.com.”

So, if you are still willing to excange your license, please contact the sales person who you've purchased this from and see what can be done to get this exchanged.

Then, you can order your dongle from plexera and have your node-locked license generated targeting this dongle's MAC id.

I hope the above is clear. If further help or the clarification is needed, please let us know.
