reuse old license file

Jump to solution

Hi!

we have a KC705 board and an old license file. In the license file there is this:

PACKAGE XC7K325T_LOGIC_EDITION xilinxd 2015.06

Is this ISE or Vivado?

and how to install vivado and license it in an offline machine that cannot ever connected to the internet?

@ahmad.zaklouta

For the latest Vivado release, if you wish to continue with the same board and the same device, then indeed, a new license would be required in this case.

The prices can be found here: https://www.xilinx.com/products/design-tools/vivado.html#buy

However, if you buy a new of KC705 kit,  as you can see, not only it will be cheaper for you than buying the entire full Vivado license, but also this kit will come with a voucher for a free Device Locked license file, that will allow you to work with any Vivado releases that will come out within a year from that time you buy the kit, i.e. if you buy a kit today (February), this will come with a free license that would have a version limit of 2021.02 (so February 2021). And this license will work with any previous as well as any new Vivado releases that will be released before the end of February 2021. However, keep in mind, this free license is a device locked license, so will only work with this particular XC7K325T device targeted in your project in Vivado.

Alternatively, you can just work with 2015.2 version of Vivado, and design your project using this release (and XC7K325T) and the license would be absolutely fine with this version of Vivado.

Hope this helps.

Hello @ahmad.zaklouta ,

Please share the entire PACKAGE section of the lic file. It will tell then if this is an ISE related or Vivado.
The ISE license will include a feature such as ISE, XPS, ChipScope etc., where are a Vivado licensing features are: Synthesis, Implementation, etc.
Howevever, since this is a node locked license and based on the version limit, to me this is a Vivado related, device locked Node-Locked license file.

In relation to you other query, you'd still need to find a machine with an internet access in order to download Vivado as a Single File Download (SFD) .tar file. You can then transfer (via a memory stick for example) this .tar file into your desired PC that has no access to internet, and install Vivado then.

If you would like to reuse this device locked license file, you'd need to re-generate this Node-Locked license targeting the Host/MAC ID of a machine that needs to be licensed. With node-locked licensing, you don't need to have access to internet, as the license is located locally on that PC, so you OK from that point.
However, as your license has the version limit of 2015.06 (so, June 2015), this means that this particular license file will only work with any Vivado releases prior 2015.2.1, so 2015.2 and earlier versions. This can be seen from this Xilinx Answer Record: 33770:

Therefore, to reuse this license, you'd need to install 2015.2 or earlier version of Vivado, and you's also need to target the XC7K325T device in your design, as the license you have is a Device Locked license that came free with the KC705 Kit.

If you have any questions on the above or any further questions, please let me know.

Hope this helps.
