vivado Licences

Jump to solution

Hi,

What is the difference between Certified Based Licence and Activation Based Licence?

Which is suggestable for B.Tech students for their Laboratory? Why?

Basic Requirements for students: 1. Pre Synthesis simulation 2.Post synthesis simulation 3.Bit file generation 4.FPGA Implementation

So,  Certified Based license is supporting for these requirements. Is it ok for students (or) Not? why

Hello sai1@,

Please note that the activation based licensing methodology is no longer supported and has been deprecated.
Therefore, you won't be able to obtain any Activation Based Licenses from Xilinx Product Licensing page. Only Certificate Based licenses are available these days.

As you may already know, from Vivado 2016.1 release (and newer), when targeting any Vivado WebPACK supported devices in your design, you are no longer needed to obtain a Vivado WebPACK license for this. It's handled now by the tool to not checkout device license for webpack devices. There is actually no physical license anywhere when you install Vivado 2016.1 and newer releases.

FYI - for any other Vivado releases prior 2016.1, you'd still need to log in to www.xilinx.com/getlicenses and generate Vivado WebPACK license file and install this then on a PC.

Since you are using 2016.2, then all what is needed here is the Vivado WebPACK 2016.2 installation and that is all you'd need in this case.

If you later decide to work with System Generator for example, you'd then need an additional SysGen standalone license file, as SysGen requires a license that is not supported by a WebPACK license file.

I hope the above is clear.

Kind Regards,

Node locked, are tied to a computer, so if that computer is not in use, you can not use that licence.

Floating , reside on a computer via a server program on that computer
other computers can then use that licence, so if you have three floating licences, any three connected three computers can run the software.
