xsim - license issue

Hi,

I have a block design generated in Vivado 2014.2.
After generating the wrapper and other output files from the block design using this version, I try to simulate it.
When I try that, compilation and elaboration works fine, but simulation (xsim) fails indicating 'No valid license' is available.

We use Vivado 2017.4 extensively for our work, but for this block design, because it was generated in 2014.2, I want to use the same version to avoid flow issues that pops up when importing the v2014.2-design into 2017.4.

I was expecting the same license that we use for 2017.4 (a server-based license) to work seamlessly in 2014.2, but apparently it doesn't.

How to get this same license to work in simulation?

Thanks

Re: xsim - license issue

What is surprising is, the same license works for synthesis and implementation in 2014.2, but won't let me simulate.

Strange!

Re: xsim - license issue

@xilinxmax,

Yes, your understanding is correct. The Vivado license which works for 2017.4 will also work for 2014.2.

Can you share the complete error message? Also please share the xilinx license file (.lic) and xinfo.txt. Run the following command from Vivado 2014.2 TCL console to generate xinfo.txt.

report_environment -file xinfo.txt

After running the command just type “pwd” this will show you the path where the xinfo.txt file is generated. You can browse to that path and find the file.

Re: xsim - license issue

Hello Syed,

Please find the files and the error snapshot attached.

I am using a server-based license, so I don't have a .lic file, I have the xinfo.txt file attached.

Thanks

Re: xsim - license issue

@xilinxmax,

This is strange, I do not see Simulation Feature in the shared xinfo.txt file. You do have a Vivado design edition license which should include Simulation feature as well. I am not sure if something must have changed.

Let me check this internally and get back to you.

Re: xsim - license issue

Hello Syed,

Is there a work around for this issue?

I am stuck with this, without being able to simulate my block design.

Thanks

Re: xsim - license issue

@xilinxmax

Can you try regenerating your license from xilinx license account?

Re: xsim - license issue

Hello @xilinxmax,

Can you please share the output of 'lmutil lmstat -c 2100@svlmmglob.comp1-ic.com -f Simulation'

You can run this command by opening your Command Prompt and then changing the directory to this location e.g.: C:\Xilinx\Vivado\2017.4\bin\unwrapped\win64.o

From this location then please run the above command and send us the output of what you'd see/get.

Re: xsim - license issue

Hello @xilinxmax,

Thanks for sharing the info.

After the "Feature usage info:", do you see 'Simulation' populated?

Or perhaps you are not seeing any other info after "Feature usage info:"? If that is the case, this means your license is corrupted some how, as it should contain a Simulation feature in it.

Can you confirm on this please? You should see something like this:

e.g.

Forum_55.png

Would it be possible to ask your floating admin to share a copy of your debug.log file (located on the server; your admin would know where this file is located) and also a copy of your floating license (/opt/flexlm/Xilinx.dir/license.dat) for examination?

If you don't want to share this directly in this forum thread, please PM me and I will provide you with my email address, that you can use to send me the files.

If you have any questions for me, please let me know.

Re: xsim - license issue

Hello Anatoli,

The last line I see with 'lmutil' command is "Feature usage info:".

There's no simulation license usage data displayed after that line.

Same with both 2017.4 and 2014.2 versions, but no simulation license issue with 2017.4 version, though.

Thanks

Re: xsim - license issue

Hello @xilinxmax,

That means that Simulation licensing feature is missing or can't be found from this floating license. There could be a syntax issue with the lic or the license is corrupted some how.

As such, please send us a copy of the debug.log file and also a cope of the floating license for examination.

With that, we will be able to identify the root cause of the problem then.

Hello @xilinxmax,

Hope you are doing well.

Any updates on this thread? Where you able to overcome this problem by now? If not, is there anything else we can help you with in relation to this matter?

If the issue is now resolved, can you please let us know what was an actual root cause of this issue at your end? This may then help other users, who'd encounter the same problem in the future.

Thanks in advance and have a nice day.
