Xilinx Virtex Ultrascale Metal Shield Discoloration after cleaning process

Hello,

I have a query in regards to Virtex Ultrascale devices. Hopefully you are able to share some of your experiences on it:

We are using Virtex Ultrascale parts on the boards and they go through a batch cleaning process. THe boards are soldered using a No-clean solder paste and are washed in a dishwasher type batch cleaner using a pH neutral (pH ~ 7) cleaning agent. After the chemical wash process, the boards are rinsed with good quality DI-water and then dried at 250F.

We recently noticed that the metal shields used on the Ultrascale parts is getting discolored after the cleaning process. This was not happening in the past when we used the Xilinx Kintex Ultrascale parts.

Can you let us know if there is any difference between the Kintex and Virtex parts in terms of the metal shield material/quality? What could be the reason for the Virtex metal shield to be discolored but not the Kintex ones.

Thanks,

Ravi

Re: Xilinx Virtex Ultrascale Metal Shield Discoloration after cleaning process

Ravi,

Can you please elaborate? Which packages are we comparing between the Kintex US and Virtex? Have you viewed their MDDS for the material composition? Why are you washing if a "No-Clean" solder process is used?

Regards,

T
