how to make x16 PCIe end point?

I am working on a project that requires about 4GB/s.  I would like to use a PCIe x16 slot.  The Vertex 5 FX200T has 4 PCIe End points. Can 2 End points be combined to utilize 1 x16 slot on a PC motherboard?

Hello,

You cannot directly connect more than 1 of the PCIe endpoints on the Virtex-5 FXT to the same x16 slot on the PC motherboard.  Each of the endpoints has its own Transaction and Data Link layers, so they are distinct entities.  So, you would need some type of PCIe switch to consolidate the multiple endpoints into one x16 link.

One other thing--there are some newer motherboards/chipsets out there that have a new feature to split a x16 slot into two x8s on the same slot, etc.  You may want to look around for something like this as well.  That would get rid of the need for a separate switch.

Do you know of any motherboards that have split x16 slots. Can you please point me to one.

Hi,

I'm also going after x16 PCIe.  Do you have any update?

Thanks,

K.
