Something about the Core Microblaze!

Hi,

I am trying to test performance of MicroBlaze on Spartan 3E Starter Kit. We want to use it on image processing, you know there is heavy computation. My question is, is Microblaze mainly used to control peripheral device or calculate (e.g matrix manipulation) ?

I would appreciate if you give me the answer as soon as possible.

Re: Something about the Core Microblaze!

In my point of view, control peripherals.

When complex calculation needs to be done, a better solution is to build a DSP accelerator using HDL or Sysgen, and attach it to the MB using FSL bus.

Hardware accelerator is the power of FPGA and MicroBlaze.

Re: Something about the Core Microblaze!

You can take a look at the White Paper 348 to understand how an EDK system can help to improve the system performance.
