how to run static simulation(wcfg and wdb) in vivado 2017.3

Jump to solution

Hello,

I have one .wcfg and one .wdb file that I would like to open it on Vivado and re-run the simulation myself. The files have not been generated by me, i just received  them.

I can open the wdb in FLow->open static simulation but cannot re-run it. Run menu in vivado is all greyed out.

I have came across this topic:

https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx11/ism_c_opening_static_simulation.htm

but I do seem to find any isimgui.exe in my vivado installation.

Thanks,

     Mihaita

Hi @mivascu85,

In Vivado, when you run a simulation and display HDL objects in a Wave window, the running simulation produces a waveform database (WDB) file containing the waveform activity of the displayed HDL objects. The WDB file also stores information about all the HDL scopes and objects in the simulated design. In this mode (Static simulation) you cannot use commands that control or monitor a simulation, such as run commands, as there is no underlying ‘live’ simulation model to control.

However, you can view waveforms and the HDL design hierarchy in a static simulation.

As mentioned in the below user guide chapter#5 page#81:

https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx2018_3/ug900-vivado-logic-simulation.pdf
