simulating in ISE

Jump to solution

I am trying to simulate a hdl file in ISE using testbench waveform. Its a simple adder.

When I try to run the behavioral simulation, nothing changes.

I've attached the screen shot.

inputs a and b are 8 and 1, I am expecting the sum to change after I run the simulation. But nothing changes.

Project clean up didn't make much difference. I just started fresh with new project and all seems to work now.

Thanks.

Boris,

I made the changes, here's the screen shot again

I have modelsim XE, the ISE does not support XE. I will try downloading SE.

Tried both modelsim SE and PE. Both didn't work.

Shouldn't ISE support modelsim XE?

Re: simulating in ISE

Hello,

The problem here is that you are attempting to compile the HDL libraries while using either ISE Simulator ModelSim XE.  You need not compile the HDL libraries in either of these simulators as the libraries have already been pre-compiled for you.  All you need to do at this point is double-click on "Simulate Behavioral Model" while highlighting your testbench.

Hope this helps.

Re: simulating in ISE

edv,

I did try "simulate behavioral model", and got the following errors-

ERROR:HDLParsers:3562 - pepExtractor.prj line 1  Expecting 'vhdl' or 'verilog' keyword,  found 'work'.
ERROR:HDLParsers:3596 - Project file 'C:/Modeltech_xe_starter/My projects//my_adder_tbw_bencher.prj' does not exist.
ERROR: Update TBW failed

In the sources window should I select "my_adder_tbw" or "UTT-my_adder-arc1"?

Re: simulating in ISE

A few things,

1) Please refrain from keeping ISE projects in paths with spaces.  ISE does not support spaces in the project directory.

2) Run "Clean Up Project Files" in order to regenerate the .prj file.  It is possible that the file has been corrupted.

Hope this helps.
