The Vccint error when estimating the power by XPE

Hi, there,

 

I estimate the power via XPE. However, I just use the around 30% of the logic, the VCCINT current limit of 200A on the package of XCVU13P. And it is lower on some other packages. I have captured some pictures and listed here.

Please give some informations and suggestions.

ok great, looks like you are using an extended temp device so Tj max is 100C, so power could increase if you go higher. Not sure what your thermal solution is like but the Enviromental settings are very coarse and so thermal simulation should be considered.

And of course, the more than 30% logic will be used for coming systems.

It looks like these are the 4 main power contributors:

Static – 35W, this is based on Tj and so not much to be done here
Logic – 72W the toggle rate is 75% for everything, what is that based on? If these are SDR then it would be 50% or lower.
DSP – 39W Again a high toggle rate here, based on some testing we have done 25% would be the max and that is based on random data being processed, if it is more deterministic then it would be closer to 12 -> 15%.
Transceivers – This page is not displayed.

Also as you have exceeded Tj max then there could be some thermal runaway, I would recommend you force Tj to 100C and that would be accurate power for that setup, although some of the toggle rates would need to be looked at also . That is then the power you need to design your thermal solution too, XPE is not a thermal tool but a power estimator. So once you have the power at Tj max you can then constrain the design for a max power number so you do not have any surprises later on.

after making changes to the XPE what is the power coming n at?

Hi Jheslip,

 

Following the rate as you mentioned and the Tj as 80, the power is around 130W and the total current is 120A.
