Video stream from ZCU106 VCU TRD 2019.2 Low-latency projects has "pulsing" effect

Jump to solution

Using the NV12 and NV16 Low-latency projects of the VCU 2019.2 TRD, the streaming out put appears to pulse once a second. The GStreamer command line used for NV12  H.264 is:

gst-launch-1.0 v4l2src io-mode=4 device=/dev/video0 ! video/x-raw\(memory:XLNXLL\), width=3840, height=2160, format=NV12, framerate=60/1 ! omxh264enc qp-mode=auto gop-mode=low-delay-p gop-length=60 periodicity-idr=60 b-frames=0 target-bitrate=25000 num-slices=8 control-rate=low-latency prefetch-buffer=TRUE low-bandwidth=false filler-data=0 cpb-size=1000 initial-delay=500 ! video/x-h264, alignment=nal ! queue max-size-buffers=0 ! mpegtsmux name=mux ! rtpmp2tpay ! multiudpsink clients=192.168.1.219:5004,192.168.1.219:5006   buffer-size=60000000 max-bitrate=120000000 max-lateness=-1 qos-dscp=60 async=false

The pulsing interval can be changed by modifying the periodicity-idr parameter. Setting the value to 0 stops the pulsing but the video quality is much worse, and has a shimmering effect.

This issue is seen for the NV12 and NV16 low-latency projects for H.264 and H.265, for 4kp60 and 1080p60.

This issue is not seen in the HDMI RX project, but this project has significantly higher latency.

A sample video of the pulsing is attached.

Any ideas on how to eliminate the pulsing?

Thanks

I heard that this issue might be resolved by applying the patches that are contained in AR 73019, but I I have not tried this myself. I would recommend giving these a try. Please let us know if this helps.

Hi @jmcdstx

How do you connect between ZCU106 and client machine by Ethernet ?

Are you using network hub ?

I encountered similar issue with NETGEAR's network hub on VCU TRD 2019.1.

It was broken packet by network hub and the route cause is performance issue of network hub.

Best regards,
