HD-SDI 720p on ZCU106

When reading UHD-SDI IP feature description,  all SDI formats should be supported, but all reference designs use 3G minimum.

We want to implement 1080i / 720P / SMPTE 292M using 74,25 MHz data clock, 1.485 GHz Serdes on a ZCU106.  Thanx, Jens M.

Firstly, most SDI applications provide two separate reference clocks to the GTH quad. Usually, the supplied reference frequency pair are 148.5 MHz and 148.5/1.001 MHz. as shown in below Image-1.

The frequency of the rxusrclk and txusrclk depend on the SDI mode and the width of the GTH transceiver's rxdata and txdata ports. This relationship is fixed by the architecture of the GTH transceiver. Those Clock frequencies are in below Table-1

My Bad, Our SMPTE UHD-SDI IP GUI, has designed the maximum bit rate option with 3G-SDI,6G-SDI, and 12G-SDI.

So, the user needs to provide 148.5Mhz clock to the reference clock source for the SDI applications, Then The GTH transciver's will generate the respective frequencies based on the SDI Video and the Transceiver data width.

So, You no need to bother about the GUI Maximum bit rate option, Eventhough If you select either 3G, 6G, or 12G-SDI, the transceiver will generate the output clock frequency based on the Input SDI Video and the Data width of it's lanes.

I hope this clears your concerns about the SDI applications.

Hello @jens.michaelsen 

The SMPTE UHD SDI, IP GUI had the option called, Maximum Line Rate, and It supports upto 12G-SDI, But IP GUI given the option to select the maximum line rate of 3G-SDI, 6G-SDI,12G-SDI.

Based on the user selection, IP limits the line rate support for their design. For example, if the maximum line rate set to 6G-SDI, then the video streams under 6G-SDI data rate ( SD-SDI, HD-SDI, 3G-SDI, 6G-SDI) is going to be detect by the IP.

In Table 2-2 of  PG205, The "rx_mode" port will address the, current SDI mode of the receiver, as shown in the below attached image.

For Yoyr reference, Please go through the XAPP1248 , It is demonstrating an application project of, Implementing UHD SDI IP on UltraScale GTH Transceivers.

Perhaps, the XAPP will helps you, to get understood the functionality of the SMPTE UHD SDI IP.

Hi,

thanx for your reply, in the screenshot you point to, exactly the line speed we want to avoid gets used as system speed.

Is it possible to select 1.5 Gbit instead of 3 GBit as maximum bit rate for output?

As a first step we would like to output 720p or 1080i coded in SMPTE 292M running at 1.5 GBit based on 74 MHz system clock.

The Display IP we need to migrate to Xilinx Hardware currently only supports only clock rates around 110 MHz, too slow for 3GBit UHD-SDI.

Would like to avoid implemenmting a gearbox between our 74 MHz IP and 145 MHz used for 3 BGit UHD-SDI just to force it back to 1.5 GBit later on.
