Strange Video TPG problem

Jump to solution

Yesterday I had a strange problem with the Video Test Pattern Generator IP in the 2018.2.1 version of Vivado.

I originally had one instance of a Video Test Pattern Generator in my design, with the foreground patterns deselected.  After testing that, I added another TPG block with the foreground selected and also changed the first TPG instance to allow foreground patterns.   When I tested that version, the second TPG moving box worked, but the first TPG that originally didn't have the foreground enabled would not display the moving box pattern.  I tried checking and unchecking the foreground box and regenerating, but it never would display a moving box.

I then added a third TPG with foreground enabled, and both the second and third instance worked fine with the moving box, but the first instance still didn't display the box.

Then I deleted the first TPG instance and added a new one in the same place, checked the foreground box, generated the bitstream, and all three instances worked with the moving box.

Is there some bug that if you ever generate a TPG without the foreground enabled, you can never regenerate it with the foreground enabled, or did I do something wrong?

Hi @reaiken,

It might be due to IP caching. If you have the same problem, next time try to reset the output product then close vivado. Delete the .cache and .ip_user_files folder and re-open vivado.

It might help.

You can also share a test case if you have, we can investigate if there is any improvement we can make to the flow
