No Support for SPI PROM M25PX64

Jump to solution

We have an SPI PROM attached to the FPGA for configuration.  While Xilinx supports the M25P64, the recommend part is now the M25PX64.  It has the same programming algorithm but a different Device ID and can be accessed faster.  When trying to program the recommended device as a M25P64, IMPACT sees the device, reads the device code for the M25PX64 and aborts since the device code is not as expected.

We have opened a webcase, but Xilinx simply says that although other users have requested support for this device, they are not supporting it [Web case from 9/2009 - No support thru and including 12.1].

We replaced the M25PX64 with the M25P64 on our prototype boards and worked around this problem.  However we don't want to move into a production with the M25P64.

Is there some way to change a TCL script, or device database to fool impact into accepting the new device code and move on.

Any help would be quite appreciated.

Hello,

     Using 11.4 you can set the following Xilinx Environment Variable

XIL_IMPACT_SKIPIDCODECHECK=1

This will skip the IDCODE check on the SPI device during indirect programming.  If the rest of the algorithms are the same the device should program fine.  This could also be done with an SVF file by commenting out the IDCODE check section after the .cor is loaded.

This don’t work!

I’ve tried to set the environment variable XIL_IMPACT_SKIPIDCODECHECK in System-Properties -> Advanced ->  Environment Variables („user variables“ and/or „system varaibles“) and via command-line with „set XIL_IMPACT_SKIPIDCHECKCODE=1“.

When I try to programm my SPI-Flash M25PX32 the IDCode still will be checked.

I have tested this workaround with ISE 12.1 and ISE 10.1.

I'm not surprised by 10.1 not working.  I tried this in 11.4 successfully.  I set the variables via Windows [see attached].

I just installed 12.2 and having troubles with Impact all together.

Hi

I set the same variable but when I start the flash programming tool crashes after 2% progress. I am using ISE impact 12.2 version.

Please help as soon as possible.

"I am using ISE impact 12.2 version."

Maybe the work-around only works in 11.4...
