Upset about ISE IMPACT Program Fail

Jump to solution

Hi,

I have a program fail problem on ISE IMPACT.  It happens often.

How to fix it?  I can now just try it by chance.  Very upset about it.

@peterchang0708 I belive your problem is with the INIT_B or PROG_B being pulled down. Please check this AR

Note that INIT_b is also 0, indicating a CRC error,

Check the signal integrity of the CLK and DATAIN lines.  Poor impedances, improper drive or termination may cause bit errors due to bounce or ringing.

Hi Austin,

Thanks for your recommendation.  I've breifly checked the TDI, TCK, TDO and TMS.

It is hard to understand the data content.  Threre are some photos attached.  Those

are the jtag signals that I probed.  Including zoom-in and zoom-out waveforms.

I've used the FPGA for several months.  It happens sometimes.  But this time, it seems

not able to problem any more.  I've spent about one day to try.  You mention about the

poor impedance, improper drive and termination.  How to improve the impedance?

About the drive, you should mean the JTAG cable from the PC with ISE iMPACT.

I don't change any drive, I think.  What does the termination mean?  Thanks.

Hi Austin,

One question about the INIT_b status.  You mention that it indicates an CRC error that I should pay attention to.

In my case, I use JTAG to program FPGA.  We don't use INIT_B.  Will the status register be also valid?

Should I check the readback, post_crc_init_flag, or post_crc...and so on?  Thanks.

Hi Austin,

What I mean for that I don't use INIT_B is that I don't use the INIT_B pin to indicate a CRC error.

I use it for general I/O pin.

Hi Austin,

A configuration log is attached for reference.

Status registers are all 0.  It isn't normal.

But I don' t know why?  It still doesn't work.

Before DONE goes high, INIT_b indicates the status of the CRC check of the configuration,

Yours has failed, so no DONE.

Hi Austin,

Thanks for your comment.  From the status registers, I think not only INIT_B, but also

some are others, for example HSWAPEN.   All registers are zero now.  How to make it

to be one?

Hi Prantham,

Thanks for your information.  It is useful.  but it may not the case I met.

I thought the chip may be broken at the DONE pin, accroding to a Xilinx

staff's description.  According to his description, the DONE pin is weak,

becasue of open drain.  I don't know the strength yet.  But I've used hand

to touch it and multifunction meter to drive the LED at its output.  I guess

it may cause some damage.  Otherwise, we don't have any other reason,

so far.
