KC705 IBERT error

Jump to solution

I have Vivado 2017.4 running on Windows 10 connected to a Kintex KC705 via a USB-UART cable. I was able to complete the BIST test successfully, and am trying to run the IBERT designs as specified here: https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/boards_and_kits/kc705/2014_3/xtp200-kc705-ibert-c-2014-3.pdf

I've downloaded the IBERT files and put them in the right locations.

I enter the following commands to load the pre-made IBERT 117-118 design

cd C:/kc705_ibert/ready_for_download

source ibert_bank_117_118.tcl

When I enter the command source ibert_bank_117_118.tcl, I get the following error:

ERROR: [Common 17-170] Unknown option '-host', please type 'connect_hw_server -help' for usage info.

A quick Google Search doesn't yield anything useful.

How do I fix this problem?

Hello @mjere,

The first thing we notice here is you are using the wrong version of VIVADO.

All the Xilinx example designs are meant to be used with the mentioned version of VIVADO in its documentation.

In this case it should be 2014.3.

Where are you running this TCL command ?

Before running this batch file please connect the board to the system and power on the system.

Please follow the exact steps before running the design.

If you want to stick to the 2017.4 you have to create your own design from IP catalog of VIVADO. Follow the steps as per XTP200  given for bank 115 and 116 but select the banks 117 and 118 for your application.

Thank you.

  • If still problem exists please try by using the below command:

          connect_hw_server -rl localhost:3121

Check this user guide  for information on                       vcse_server:https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx2017_4/ug908-vivado-programming-debugging.pdf

I assume you are running this tcl script once hw manager is up and connected. If i remember this one correctly, this script sets up the clocks. This script also was not meant for 2017.4 and likely has conflicting calls which we might not be using in 2017.4. I would just regenerate the core in 2017.4 and then manually set up the clocks. Or download 2014.3, but you will see improved performance in the more recent tools.

Creating a custom IBERT seemed to do the trick. Thanks!
