Simple ZCU104 Board Interface Test Question

Jump to solution

I'm having an issue where my ZCU104 board is passing everything except for the PING test when it attempts to connect to the lwIP TCP echo server. The more I look at it I'm about 99% sure that the issue is something that was just an oversight on part, so I have a stupid question to ask about the PING test.

Do you need to have an ethernet cable hooked up to the ZCU104 for the PING test?

I currently have not completed the ethernet setup described in XTP504 and wanted to make sure that this was the reason for the failed PING test. Since no mention of an ethernet connection was made in XTP498 - it only talks about setting the COM ports - I wanted to make sure that the board wasn't expected to contact the lwIP TCP echo server through the USB connection with my computer.

So long as the PING test is intended to go through the ethernet port I have no concerns, and it would appear that this is likely since the error mentions a PHY setup error (though it could be referring to my computer's ethernet port, rather than the ZCU104 ethernet port).

I've attached a photo of the PING test failure if that would be helpful.

Hi Jackit,

I believe it could be related to this Answer Record (it's for ZCU102, but should be similar):

Let us know if that helps.

Cheers,

Hi tyler.faye@medtronic.com ,

Which version of Vivado you are using? Revision version of the board?

You need to follow as per XTP504.

Can you power cycle the board and try checking PING Test? and share the results.

Regards,

Deepak D N

Hi Tyler,

You definitely need the Ethernet cable for the ping test, as well as the setup from slides 16-20 of XTP504:
https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/boards_and_kits/zcu104/2018_3/xtp504-zcu104-setup-c-2018-3.pdf

You can connect the Ethernet cable straight to your computer's Ethernet port, the IP used in the available design is 192.168.1.10

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks,
Andres

Re: Simple ZCU104 Board Interface Test Question

Hello Andres,

Thank for you advising in advance.

I have carefully completed the ethernet setup described in XTP504, such as
Set the Link Speed & Duplex to Auto Negotiation
IPV 4 : IP adress: 192.168.1.2/192.168.1.10 (had tested saperately); subnet mask: 255.255.255.0; default gateway: 192.168.1.255/192.168.1.1 (tested saperately)
and the rest of tests were completed successfully.

Although I have cycled board power before start the ping test, I encountered this problem as well.

I want to know how to cope with it, and whether the "Ping Test Failure" could impact the following work such as pynq and so on.

I've attached a photo of the PING test failure hope that would be helpful.

Hi andresb,

That's awesome. The Ping Test has finally completed with the help of the Answer Record you mentioned.

It is the System Language that caused this problem.

Thanks a lot.
