ZCU102 openamp precompiled (Quick Try) petaLinux example kernel panic

Hi,

I tried running the Quick Try example for OpenAMP as desccribed in UG1186 (v2018.2) June 6, 2018 page 27 which resulted in a kernel Panic. I was using the files from the ZCU102 ZU9 ES2 Rev 1.0 BSP (tried the ZCU102 BSP (prod-silicon) as well, same result) 2018.2 example project. Am I missing something obvious?

I was only able to get it working after I changed project-spec/meta-user/recipes-bsp/device-tree/files/system-user.dtsi to include the openamp/rpmsg/ipi-mailbox device-tree nodes and rebuilt petalinux. Using the system-user.txt file from this post here: https://forums.xilinx.com/t5/OpenAMP/rpmsg-device-is-not-created-in-sys-bus-rpmsg-devices-ZynqMP/td-p/1002106 worked from me.

I think the problem comes from using that FIT image.ub file which already contains a dtb file inside (and it loads that anyway). Loading that openamp.dtb with fatload is probably messing something up there ...

Thanks very much. Indeed, when I build the OS image myself with a version of the dtsi with openamp.dtsi included, it works. I guess the issue here is simply that the quick-start procedure as documented simply doesn't work.

 

If I may be so bold as to hijack this thread, when I run the example apps, such as the matrix multiplication one, I can see the UART output from the A53, obviously as part of an interactive session but I see no output at all stemming from the R5. This is the case both for the bundled R5 application as well as when I build the example R5 code manually using xilinx SDK.  (I'm using 2019.1). I can see no configuration problems on the R5,  stdin+stdout is set to UART0 and I would have thought that the outputs of both cores would be visible on the terminal.

Do you have any insight as to why I am not seeing the R5's output?

I can confirm that I see no R5 console logs in the echo_test and mat_mul_demo demos as well, but I haven't spent much time debugging those. For the image_rpc_demo it seems to work in both standalone and FreeRTOS versions ...
